Before starting in the final phase of the campaign with two flights on consecutive days, we tried to make the most of our free time here in Kiruna.
Last weekend we managed to have a day off for skiing in Riksgränsen, a skistation next to the Norwegian boarder, which is famous for powder skiing.
Unfortunately we didn’t have fresh snow. Nevertheless everyone no matter if experienced or newbie had a lot of fun. And on the way back we managed to see a moose next to the street.
Yesterday we left the Arena Arctica at lunch time to do a Husky Tour. The tour started a bit outside of Kiruna. Upon arrival at the kennel we got equipped with a proper winter outfit. Afterwards our tour guide Hannah tried to explain us how to steer the sledge, but was perturbed by the barking dogs who couldn’t wait to start the tour. In couples of two we moved to our sledges, one was sitting on the comfortable bench with reindeer fur, the other one had to stand in the back to break if needed. Luckily our guide was driving in front and the other dogs knew they had to follow, so our only responsibility was to break if the sledge in fron was too slow. On half way we changed places. After 1.5 hours, 20 km and a lot of fun and snow we retourned to the kennel. There we fed our dogs with cow stomach. The awesome trip finished with a coffee at the open fire place inside one of the huts and we came back happy and warm to Kiruna.
