Starting from March 1, 2020, around 20 students, Phds and senior scientists from the Universities of Aachen, Bonn and Cologne as well as Forschungszentrum Jülich will again be called: Off to the desert! Geoverbund ABC/J is organising this strongly interdisciplinary field trip to the Sultanate of Oman for the fifth time around in order to promote education of young academics and to involve them as early as possible in active research projects. For about three weeks, we will report directly from the south-eastern tip of the Arabian Peninsula on the experiences of our excursionists.

He is heading Geoverbund ABC/J’s coordination office, located at the Agrosphere Institute at FZJ, which is organising the ABC/J excursion to Oman since 2016.
Michaela Falkenroth is drawn to the desert since her Master thesis dealing with coastal sedimentology on the coastline of Oman. Since 2018 she is a PhD student at the Institute of Neotectonics and Geohazards at the RWTH Aachen, where she studies the role of beach rocks in sea level reconstructions. She is passionate about creative writing, octopuses and last interglacial shorelines.
